Day 12 - Repetition

You may have felt annoyed that the assignments for the last few days have been repetitive. Guess what? Twitter is all about repetition. In advertising, there is the "Rule of 7" or "The Seven Times Factor". They say that you need to hear something seven times before a customer takes action.

If you want to be known for something, you need to tweet about it. And then tweet about it again. And again. And keep repeating it.

If you pay attention to popular tweeters, they regurgitate the same content all time. And not just that. There is little new content circulating around Twitter. But there are new ways to say the same thing. You can put your own spin on the content. Take the popular tweets of others and riff on them.

I need to mention plagiarism again. I'm NOT suggesting that you take the content that someone else has created, copy it, and then tweet it as if it were your own. If you are tempted to do that, you should retweet the original tweet. (You would probably appreciate it if they did the same for your tweet.)

However, you see patterns all of the time:

  • Tell me your a ... without saying ...
  • N steps to ....
  • I'm excited to announce that I'm leaving company X....
  • (Next day) I'm excited to announce that I'm joining company Y...
  • MEMEs

Your task today:

  • Spend 10 minutes doomscrolling
  • Pick 5 tweets that have more than 50 likes
  • Write them down in your notebook
