Day 2 - Profile

Today we are going to overhaul your profile.

You often hear, "don't judge a book by its cover". Those who say this usually have bad covers on their books. They don't realize that marketing works. I'm going to show you images of profiles with 50K+ followers.

Here are some images of Twitter users with less than 500 followers that have been using Twitter for at least five years.

What do you notice about this?

You should invest in a decent photo for your profile. This is not hard or expensive. Find a picture that clearly shows your face and doesn't have a distracting background. You might be tempted to have a photo that shows your hobbies (biking, skiing), your pets (dogs, cats), a party that you enjoyed, an NFT, one that shows off your goofiness. Don't do it.

If your photo is blurry or old, don't use it.

If you have a question about whether your photo is appropriate, go back to the list of five Twitter users you look up to. Look at their images. Does yours look like it would fit in with these? That should answer your question.

If you still haven't determined if the photo is decent, tweet me, and I'll give you my opinion. (However, note that I might share it as an example so others can learn from it.)

Now onto your profile. Your photo is part of it. The other main part is the text of the profile. You want your profile to:

  • Introduce you
  • Entice folks to click on the "Follow" button
  • Describe your content

Check out the images of the profile above. What profile do you like? Which one calls out to you?

Finally, post a tweet similar to this:

"I just updated my profile! What do you think of it? #twitter4devs"
